Partington walk 1: Nature Reserve Trail

Overview

The somewhat isolated community of Partington may not be an obvious location for walking, but there are at least three worthwhile routes worth exploring around the village.

One of these can be found in the Partington Community Nature Reserve, which straddles the route of the disused Cheshire Lines rail line to the south east of Cadishead Viaduct. The start of the nature trail is a little hard to find, situated just off the Manchester Road to the south of the Saica Paper Mill. The trail runs for just under 1 km (0.6 miles) northwest towards the old viaduct. From there, you can extend your walk by following public footpaths westward towards the centre of Partington or alternatively simply return through the reserve.

Accessibility and facilities

To the best of our knowledge, the route is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Dog-owners may need to be careful of glass and other hazards along the route.

There are no public toilets or refreshment facilities en route but the centre of Partington with its shops is nearby.

How to get there

The start of the route is approximately 0.6 miles (1 km)’s walking distance from the centre of Partington (along Manchester Road/A6144). The are also regular bus services that run along this main road.
