Overview

The Middlebrook Valley Trail runs between Red Moss at Middlebrook and Bolton Town Centre. There is a purpose-built footpath and cycleway that leads via Deane Church Clough and Ladybridge to Lostock Junction. A short journey from here, Middlebrook is accessed via the restricted byways that cross the Regent Park Golf Club.

One way, the trail is 2 miles / 3.2 km long, and so a there-and-back walk will be twice this length.

Accessibility and facilities

According to Bolton Council, the Middlebrook Valley Trail is accessible to most people including those using motorised buggies. Furthermore, the Walks with Wheelchairs website states that “this is a very flat 2-mile walk for those with buggies or wheelchairs… The route has a very good surface due to its dual use as a cycleway and is a quiet getaway from the surrounding urban areas.”

While there are no toilets en route, there are cafes and restaurants on the Deane Road (A676) just south of the eastern end of the trail.

How to get there

The western end of the trail (given as the main start point on this page) is very close to Lostock train station, which offers step-free access to both platforms. The eastern end of the trial is close to bus routes and only 0.9 miles / 1.5 km from Bolton town centre.

To work out how to get to and from the walk start point and end point, simply click the Google Maps links on this page. Then click ‘Directions’ and enter your postcode or location in the relevant field. For public transport options, click the train icon.
