Overview

Reddish Vale Country Park spans 161 hectares along the River Tame on the northeast edge of Stockport.

Reddish Vale provides a green corridor linking Stockport centre with Reddish, Woodley and with Denton in Tameside. There are walks, cycle tracks and bridleways that connect with the Goyt-Etherow, Saddleworth and Longdendale trails. There are also long-distance routes such as the Midshires Way and Trans Pennine Trail.

Sand martins and kingfishers nest in the river banks. The mill ponds and wetlands are visited by wildfowl including geese, herons, grebes, cormorants, coots and a variety of ducks.

If you’re planning a trip to Reddish Vale Country Park, download the nature walk guide from this page for a short walk, or the footpaths map to aid your longer explorations. Visit the country park website for further information,  for example about the opening hours of the visitor centre.

Accessibility

Regarding wheelchair access, we understand that many paths have been upgraded, making them wheelchair and pushchair-friendly. Note, however, that we not been able to verify conditions on the ground and so class this walk as only partly accessible.

How to get there

Reddish Vale Country Park visitor centre (the main start point indicated on this page) has a car park and is not far from Reddish centre and from Brinnington with its train station. There is also a southern car park off Tiviot Way, just a short walk north of Stockport town centre. We have listed this as the alternative start point.

To work out how to get to and from the walk start points, simply click the Google Maps links below. Then click ‘Directions’ and enter your postcode or location in the relevant field. For public transport options, click the train icon.
