Walk description:

Platt Hall is located in Platt Fields Park in South Manchester. The Hall and park were both once a private home, built in 1760-63 for a wealthy textile merchant who directly profited from the transatlantic slave trade.

Since then, the Hall has been (list of uses) and is now a creative space for local residents to connect and focus on health and wellbeing. Working in collaboration with local partners, such as Better Health MCR, Sure Start and Friends of Platt Fields, the Hall delivers a wide range of activity that harnesses creativity as a tool for health – whether that’s a walk, exploring the collections, creating your own artworks or free play sessions for under 5s.

Join us for a walk which celebrates connected communities by learning about the history of the park and its ongoing impact on local communities.
From William Royle campaigning for access to green space, to the installation of Manchester’s Abraham Lincoln statue, the work of Rosa Grindon and the suffragettes, community activist and civil rights campaigner Elouise Edwards, the project 47 Trees for Sir Gerald Kaufmann and the countless protests for human rights, Black Lives Matter and Palestine.
