Welcome to Eccles Rambling and Social Club (ERSC).. We are a long established club which in 2021 celebrates its 75th anniversary, so we must be doing something right!
The club has a mixed age range, but with mainly older members, and is friendly and welcoming to newcomers. In addition to the walking programme we also arrange weekends away twice a year and an overseas holiday every two years. There is also a social calendar with trips to places of interest organised. Members pay a small annual subscription and there are no charges for walks. You are most welcome to try us out for free.
Our Walks:
The club offers walks on most Saturdays throughout the year. These vary in length. The majority are around 7 miles but we do go up to 10 miles. All walks are fully described in advance with details of the distance and, importantly, the amount of climbing. We take safety very seriously and all walks are properly planned and checked out in accordance with the club’s guidelines. Living where we do we are blessed with good quality walking in every direction and we take full advantage of this. Most walks are relatively close by requiring a drive up to 45 minutes but we do occasionally go further afield necessitating longer journeys. Approximately once per month there is a mid-week walk which is usually shorter than on Saturdays and at a more leisurely pace.
Walks are lead by members and, for those who want to lead but are less confident, we provide support so you can develop new skills. Members use their own transport to get to the start of walks but we encourage car sharing and it may be possible to provide lifts.
