Ramblers groups welcome all sorts of people: we particularly aim to suit those in the middle of their working lives but anyone can join us on a walk. Our aim is to organise walking and other activities for the weekend although, from late spring to early autumn, we like to arrange short evening walks after work too. We also often meet mid-week for social activities, including cinema, theatre and visits to pubs and the odd restaurant.
Our walks
We have a full programme of walks throughout the year. If you would like to get involved, join us! We are looking for volunteers to help lead lots more walks, organise socials and perhaps even plan a weekend away! There is plenty of support available from others in the group.
We usually arrange several walks every month, as well as regular reasonably-priced weekends away, where we stay in hostels and bunk-houses so we can visit the Peaks, Lakes, North Wales and further afield.
Unlike some outdoor groups and clubs, we don’t assume that everyone can drive and, being a walking group, we are very interested in sustainable travel. The vast majority of our events are planned around public transport, mainly trains but also trams and buses. Many of our weekends away also have been planned around accommodation that was easily accessible by train from Manchester. This option has proved extremely popular although, just as with the day walks, there’s nothing to stop you driving and meeting us at the start if that suits your circumstances better.
Contact details
We are gaining new members every month so if you do feel like trying us out for the first time, you will probably meet some people who have themselves only recently joined and who will hopefully be more than happy to tell you how friendly we are. You are welcome to join us for up to three walks to see if the group is for you before joining the Ramblers. If you have any questions, then please feel free to contact us by email.
We hope to see you on a walk soon!
