We are a a friendly Nordic Walking group for open to everyone, particularly women with breast cancer. I am Claire a trained Nordic Walking Instructor.
Our Thursday morning group is part of the abcdiagnosis.co.uk Nordic walking scheme supporting ladies with breast cancer in Greater Manchester. It is also open to everyone else.
It is a great place to meet new friends, have a giggle, and improve your mental and physical wellness. We sometimes stop for a coffee together at the end of the walk. The walks are donation based or free for ladies with breast cancer.
I am about to start another group for professionals who want to unwind after work, make friends, have a breath of fresh air, and get fitter. The group runs in the evening on Mondays or Wednesdays at 6.15pm. Cost £8. Once a month there is an evening meal together.
Our walks
We offer walks in the borough of Wigan or in nearby West Lancashire or St Helens. We change locations every week.
The walks are accessible by car and some of them by bus.
The walks range from 1 hour to 2 hours. The Thursday morning walks are approximately 5km or 3 miles.
If you want longer walks with a faster pace, the evening group is better for you. There is an added warm up and cool down essential with Nordic Walking.
Nordic poles are provided. Let me know when you want to attend the walk so I can bring poles for you.
Walks to suit
We have walks to suit Nordic Walking beginners and intermediate.
As it is considered a cardio exercise certain conditions restrict the access to Nordic Walking. As you walk your fitness will develop as it moves almost all muscles in the body. Increases oxygen Uptake, heart rate, and burns 20% more calories than a normal walk. It is also kinder on your joints.
