Stockport Walkers is affiliated to the Peak and Northern Footpaths Society and HF Holidays.
Established in 1909, Stockport Walkers are a friendly and sociable walking group with members from all walks of life. The aim of Stockport Walkers is to encourage the love of nature and the countryside through walking together and to foster a spirit of sociability and comradeship.
We have a large and actively involved membership of up to 200 members. A large majority of our members participate in one or more of our 4 or 5 weekly walks. Members mainly live in the South Manchester and Stockport areas with some coming from as far as Sheffield and Warrington.
We also organise holidays in the UK through our affiliation with HF Holidays as well as several social events.
Our Walks
Our programme provides walks on three days a week, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, for a wide range of abilities. We hike all year round and members have the choice of walking at 3 different levels of ability. Walks and hikes vary from 4 to 10 miles in length.
You can try us out by joining up to 3 walks before membership is required at a cost of just £10 per year.
We enjoy walking and exploring the beauty of our local countryside in a wide variety of areas: Stockport, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Peak District, Staffordshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire and Wales. Most walks are within an hour’s drive of Stockport and often considerably less, especially during the winter months.
Walks to suit
We have 3 grades of walk:
A’ Walks are energetic and are usually between 8 and 10 miles long at a good pace and last very approximately 5 hours. They take place on Wednesdays and Sundays.
‘B’ Walks take place on both Wednesdays and Saturdays. They are usually between 6 and 8 miles in length at a moderate pace and typically last 4 to 5 hours.
‘C’ Walks are more relaxed and are usually between 4 and 6 miles in length at a gentler pace and last approximately 3 – 4 hours. They take place on Wednesdays.
