Overview

Chadkirk Country Estate is a very popular green space in Stockport with plenty of flora and fauna to observe. Of added interest is the 16th century Chadkirk Chapel.

On site, you can relax in the peace and tranquillity of the setting and learn more about the history of the chapel. Enjoy a walk through the surrounding picturesque woodland and along the Peak Forest Canal before stopping for refreshments inside the beautiful chapel. For opening times of the chapel, check here. Note that the estate and footpaths are open all year round.

According to the Stockport Council website, “the wonderful new information trail around the estate will give you further insight into the chapel and the estate – just follow the rabbits!”

Aside from this, we have provided a downloadable map of footpaths around the Chadkirk Estate. Alternatively, you can follow a longer route of 2 miles / 3.2 km on the GPS Routes website.

Accessibility and facilities

Unfortunately, we have no current access information for the Chadkirk Estate and Chapel and so have not marked this walk as suitable for wheelchair and pushchair users.

Limited refreshments are available at the chapel when it is open, and there is a café/restaurant at Dobbies Garden Centre a little way to the south.

How to get there

Chadkirk Chapel and the estate is only 0.5 mile / 0.8 km’s walk from Romiley train station, which does offer step-free access coverage according to National Rail.
