As part of the Greater Manchester Walking Festival in May, Medicare Foundation is organising a community walking activity at Boggart Hole Clough to promote health awareness and encourage physical activity within the community.
This activity is primarily organised for women and girls between the ages of 18 and 60, as well as individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease. However, in the spirit of inclusion, the event is open to anyone in the community who wishes to take part. The walk aims to raise awareness about sickle cell disease, the importance of blood donation, and other health conditions that are increasingly prevalent in our communities, including Angina , Hypertension, and Hypercholesterolemia .
The walk will cover a total distance of five miles, starting and finishing at the Lakeside Café within Boggart Hole Clough. Participants will complete two laps of the route. At the end of the walk, healthy refreshments and drinks will be provided for everyone who has taken part.
Following the walk, participants will have the opportunity to socialise, build new connections, and engage in an informative session led by a registered NHS nurse and members of Medicare Foundation. During this session, attendees will learn about the importance of regular physical activity and healthy eating in daily life. The discussion will highlight how walking and maintaining an active lifestyle can help reduce the risk of conditions such as angina, obesity, hypertensive disorders, and high cholesterol, while also supporting better mental health and overall wellbeing.
We look forward to welcoming you and seeing you participate in this year’s event.
