Join our volunteer-led guided walk following the stories of the newly volunteer-published book, Lives and Times of the Smithills Estate.
Step back in time and join us for a guided walk of Smithills Estate, focusing on the area’s rich history.
This walk is led by Smithills volunteer guide and warden Tony Greenwood, who also has helped write the book Lives and Times of Smithills Estate.
Learn about how human activity shaped the land, and how this peaceful landscape was once filled with industry and people.
Visit the remains of cottages, houses and mines, hear about a mysterious murder on the moor and follow in the footsteps of the great Winter Hill mass trespass of 1896.
