The LGBT Foundation is a national charity dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ individuals. We empower people to realise their full potential by providing vital services, including talking therapies, recovery support, domestic abuse support, sexual health testing, and our Indigo Gender Service. Our mission is to create safe, inclusive spaces, amplify LGBTQIA+ voices, and drive positive change across Manchester and the UK.
In support of Mental Health Awareness Week, we are hosting a special Wellbeing Walk, offering LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies a safe, sober space to meet new people, make friends, and enjoy nature. The walk promotes mental and physical wellbeing, helping reduce loneliness and fostering community connections. It’s also an opportunity to introduce walking as a positive, accessible hobby that participants can continue on their own for ongoing wellbeing.
Each month, we explore a new location in Greater Manchester to keep the experience fresh and engaging. In May, we’ll visit Reddish Vale Country Park for a 3km circular walk, taking approximately 55 minutes at a steady, comfortable pace. We will meet at Piccadilly Station at 11:20am to catch the train to Brinnington Station, followed by a short walk to the route’s starting point.
The walks are friendly and informal, encouraging conversation and connection. We walk at a steady pace suitable for all abilities and recommend participants wear comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing—after all, Manchester’s weather is famously unpredictable!
With it being Mental Health Awareness Week, our Wellbeing Walk is more than ever. It’s the perfect time for connection, community, and self-care. Whether participants come for the fresh air, new friendships, or simply to explore somewhere new, everyone is welcome.
