Back for the fifth year from Wednesday 1st to Friday 31st May 2019, the Greater Manchester Walking Festival offered over 400 free guided walks exploring towns, cities, the countryside, canals, riversides and parks across Greater Manchester. Over 3,000 people took part!

The aim of the month long event is to encourage residents of Greater Manchester to rediscover their local area, reconnect with their friends and neighbours and to get out and about more.

The Festival is delivered by GM Moving, in partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) with support from local walking groups and charities.

News about the Walking Festival May 2020 will be coming soon! If you are interested in being involved or have an idea for next year’s festival, we would love to hear from you – please get in touch info@gmmoving.co.uk

“I enjoy walking because I feel with today’s fast-paced lifestyle it’s really important that we take time out to enjoy travelling to a destination just as much as the destination itself. You see so much more around you when you’re not just sat in your bubble going to and from places and it’s great for the environment too.

I also have a 16 month old daughter and for the last couple of months she has been getting used to taking her first steps, so together we have been walking to loads of places. It’s been so much fun watching her gain more confidence whilst also experiencing all the different sites, sounds and smells you get by being outdoors.

A quick 15 minute walk during my lunch break works wonders for clearing my head and setting me up for the second part of the day – and it keeps me fit. Get out there and give it a go!”
