Welcome to Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles health walks

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles health walks are led by volunteers and our extensive partnership across Wigan Borough. We offer a varied, accessible and diverse programme of health walks to encourage people to walk more in their local area. Health walks range from 30 to 90 minutes and are suitable for beginners to exercise and those with medical conditions. The team also offers specific 12-week walking programmes to existing groups, which can be tailored to their needs.

Our walks aim to use Wigan Borough’s glorious green space to encourage adults of all ages and abilities to become more active in a safe and sociable atmosphere. All walks are free of charge! Please come prepared with suitable sturdy footwear and clothing and bring a drink.

There is no need to book in advance, just turn up and you’ll be made to feel very welcome. Our groups are very social and many arrange refreshments after the walk. A copy of our latest walks programme can be downloaded from this page.

The team also organises Nordic Walking and longer progression walks which can include more challenging terrain and intensity. These do not form part of our Walking for Health accredited programme of Health Walks. Please visit our website for more information.

Walking for Health

Walking for Health is England’s largest network of health walks with over 360 active walking schemes, helping people across the country lead a more active lifestyle. We’ve done this with great success for over 14 years, improving the mental and physical well-being of thousands of people.

Our walks are short and over easy terrain, and are open to everyone but are especially aimed at those who are least active.

Many of our walkers start walking to improve their health, but find it easy to keep coming back because of all the new friends they’ve made. So as well as all the physical health benefits, Walking for Health is also great for your social life!
