Welcome to MAD Walkers

We are the Manchester and District Walkers (MAD Walkers), a local group of the Ramblers for people in their 20s or 30s – or beyond – who live in and around the Greater Manchester area.

We’ve been around since 2004 and now have around 300 members, so are able to offer a variety of walks to suit you and many other like-minded people – whatever your level of fitness. New members are always welcome!

Our walks

We have a varied itinerary of day walks at weekends and also evening weekday walks during summer months. We use both car and public transport to access the many excellent walking areas around Manchester and beyond. See our walks calendar for all walk details.

Our walks are open to anyone and you don’t even need to book. Our Walks page lets you know all the information you need for a particular walk, from the length, grade and approximate duration, as well as our meet-up points.

We recommend that you wear a good pair of walking boots, and preferably no jeans. You can read more about being prepared on our Before Walking page.

Our weekends away are also very popular as they give our members a cost-effective and social way to explore other areas of the country not so easily accessible with a day trip.

Our social events

We have regular pub nights every first Wednesday of the month at The Knott Bar in Manchester. These are a great opportunity to meet both existing and other new members.

Contact details

Fancy joining us but not sure where to start? MAD Walkers welcomes prospective new members and you can try as many as three walks or socials before joining the group through the Ramblers. Alternatively, feel free to contact us via the links shown on this page.
